Profile of antibiotic susceptibility test of bacterial pathogens isolated from the hands of university students in Nigeria

The aim of this study was to assess bacterial contaminants isolated from hands undergraduate students Babcock University, Nigeria. A total number 200 (100 males and 100 females) were randomly recruited hand swabs collected inoculated on MacConkey chocolate Agar. biochemical tests conducted identify the isolates antibiotic susceptibility testing carried out using disc diffusion method. Out participants examined, recovered 154 (77.0%). most frequently organisms Staphylococcus aureus (32.5%), followed by Escherichia coli (26.6%), coagulase negative (20.8%) then Klebsiella pneumoniae(20.1%). sensitivity showed that all sensitive ceftriaxone, levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, imipenem, ofloxacin azithromycin, but less cefuroxime (50.0%) amoxicillin (60.0%). S. ofloxacin, gentamycin azithromycin while for Gram bacteria, E. 100% cefuroxime, ampiclox, (20.0%). pneumoniae ceftriaxone gentamycin, 90.0%, respectively, In conclusion, some bacteria exist Students with varied patterns therefore institutional implementation hygiene practices should be implement among in university.
